12th Chichester Scouts go Caving in the Mendips

What a fantastic weekend! 12 Scouts from 12th Chichester Scouts spent the weekend caving in the Mendips under the guidance of the Horsham Caving Team.

Saturday was used to asses their skills in the Burrington Coombe caves of Rods Pot, Goatchurch and Sidcott. The groups were then split into three "skills" to tackle different degrees of Swildon's Hole system on the Sunday. The "easy going" group used the "Top Series", whilst the other two groups navigated the waterways, down a 20ft waterfall and on to "The Pots" which are essential two pools of water. The "faster" team then continued on to Sump 1 - a 1 metre underwater section in the freezing water where we had to pull ourselves through on a line - scary even for me! A truly adventurous and challenging weekend where "Courage in all difficulties" was displayed on many occasions. Well done especially to the four Scouts (and me) who conquered Sump 1 (twice).
