The essence of the scheme is to introduce young people aged 8 – 17 to aviation, not just flying but to engineering, air traffic control, ground handling etc. The day is centred around a short flight for each young person of around 20 minutes, but their visit is supplemented by other activities such as map reading, an airfield tour, a number of questionnaires and other games and activities. Last year for example, we used wheelchairs to introduce the rules of ground marshalling aircraft. This year we will also have an aerobatic display.
